Mid-Level Research Associate (Maryland)

This opportunity will be focused on molecular chemistry research and development of microbiome and clinical metagenomic tests taking place in CosmosID’s Maryland lab. The candidate will have prior experience in next-generation sequencing (NGS) library
preparation, sequencing, and troubleshooting NGS workflows. Preferably, the candidate will have solid experience in development of protocols used in clinical workflows and have familiarity with the rigor and documentation needed for these clinically focused
protocols.

The candidate will work closely with a team of diverse backgrounds and skills including members of the Research and Development team as well as regular interaction with the Chief Medical Officer for guidance on experimental design and execution of protocol development. The candidate will also work closely with the bioinformatics and clinical teams to inform protocol  development.

Comprehensive documentation consistent with standards required by clinical regulatory authorities is a requirement. Version control and documentation are critical skills needed for this position as some of the protocols being developed may be submitted to clinical regulatory bodies.

Prior experience with laboratory automation is not required but desirable. The candidate must have experience with various sequencing platforms, especially Nanopore methods.

Requirements
Education: achieved at least BS/BA or equivalent, masters level training a plus
Certifications: ASCP Board of Certification (or equivalent) not necessary but a plus Prior Experience: 1-3 years of industry or academic lab experience, specifically NGS library preparation
Physical Ability: ability to regularly lift 25lbs
Other: Excellent communication across local and remote teams required
Personality Traits: curiosity and careful attention to detail are required
